Governor Makes History Appointing Mississippi’s First Woman to the U.S. Senate

 

JACKSON, MS — Today, Gov. Phil Bryant appointed Mississippi’s Commissioner of Agriculture and Commerce, Cindy Hyde-Smith, to succeed Sen. Thad Cochran upon his retirement from the U.S. Senate. Mississippi Republican Party (MSGOP) Chairman Lucien Smith released the following statement congratulating Cindy Hyde-Smith on receiving this historic appointment:

“Governor Bryant made history today by appointing Mississippi’s first woman to the United States Senate. Cindy is a lifelong conservative with a deep commitment to the people of Mississippi. I am confident her years of expertise will serve her well in this new capacity, and I congratulate her on this well-deserved appointment.”
