JACKSON, Miss. – Yesterday, the Mississippi Republican Party State Executive
Committee voted to endorse State Senator Jenifer Branning for the Central District
position of the Mississippi Supreme Court.

“We Mississippians need proven conservative leaders serving on our highest court,”
said Mississippi Republican Party Chairman Mike Hurst. “It’s vital that we have Justices
who will uphold the Constitution and interpret our state’s laws as written, and not
legislate from the bench. Senator Branning has been a conservative champion in the
Legislature and is well-prepared to lead with integrity and defend our Constitution on
day one. The Mississippi Republican Party is proud to endorse Jennifer Branning for
Justice of the Mississippi Supreme Court.”

In 2002, U.S. District Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi Henry T. Wingate
declared Mississippi law prohibiting endorsements in non-partisan races
unconstitutional, in violation of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Founded in 1956, the Mississippi Republican Party works to elect conservatives to local,
state, and federal offices. The Mississippi Republican Party believes in preserving
individual liberties, resisting the overreach of big government intervention, protecting the
rights of citizens outlined in our country’s founding documents, and increasing
prosperity for all Mississippians.
