Tuesday Morning Liberal Democrat Alert: Bennett Malone
Liberal Democrat Alert
It’s Tuesday morning, and that means it’s time for our weekly Liberal Democrat Alert.
This week’s feature is on Representative Bennett Malone of House District 45. Bennett Malone was first elected to the Mississippi House of Representatives all the way back in 1979. Today, voters in portions of Leake, Neshoba, Scott, and Rankin counties are represented in Jackson by House District 45.
This week’s feature is on HB 729, a bill Bennett Malone sponsored in 2008 along with co-sponsors Rep. Frances Fredericks and Rep. Sara Thomas. Bennett Malone’s bill would change the law to say that criminals convicted of producing or selling marijuana or prescription drugs would be eligible for parole, along with all other criminals convicted of “nonviolent” offenses after June 30, 1995.
If you or someone you know lives in House District 45, ask Bennett Malone why he wrote HB 729 and tried to change the law to go easier on criminals convicted of selling drugs. A legislator’s priorities are reflected in his record, and if HB 729 is any indicator, Bennett Malone has a lot of explaining to do.
You can also help us elect a conservative in House District 45 this November by making a donation to the Mississippi Republican Party. Help us win House District 45 with a small but generous contribution of just $4.50 today. We need your support to elect a Republican majority on November 8 and a Republican Speaker of the House next January.
